Taoiseach Micheál Martin has announced that the income threshold for social housing eligibility will rise by €5,000 next year.
Under the revised income thresholds, “many, many more people” would be eligible for social housing and the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), according to Martin.
The Taoiseach said that in most counties, income thresholds have not been raised in ten years when speaking to reporters at a Fianna Fáil meeting of local council members.
Last month, the upper income limit for Carlow, Clare, Laois, Westmeath, and Galway counties was raised.

Depending on the local authority, there are various income bands. The maximum net income threshold in Dublin is €42,000 for a family of three adults and four children, while it is €35,000 for a single individual.
The income threshold in Co. Cork is €30,000 for a single individual and €36,000 for a family with three adults and four children.
