Nimmi Joy (34), an Indian-origin nurse who worked at St. James’s Hospital, has passed away in India following months of medical treatment.

Nimmi had been battling serious health complications and was recently diagnosed with lung fibrosis. Her condition gradually worsened, and she had been awaiting a lung transplant while in Ireland.
As part of her treatment plan, she travelled to India last October. After a suitable donor was identified, she underwent a lung transplant surgery on January 25. The procedure was reported to have been successful, and she was recovering under specialist care, including in intensive care.
However, her condition suddenly deteriorated when she suffered a heart attack yesterday evening. Despite intensive medical efforts, she could not be revived.
Originally from Thottathimala in Kozhikode district, Nimmi had been residing at Ossory Court, Borris-in-Ossory, Co. Laois. She was known as an active member of the Indian community in Ireland and was involved in cultural, social and spiritual initiatives.
Her husband, Vipin, works as a mechanical engineer.
Her untimely death has left family, friends, colleagues and members of the Indian community in Ireland in deep mourning.
