An Indian priest is being treated in a hospital after suffering serious injuries in a stabbing incident in Waterford City.
The victim, who is in his 30s, was attacked in Ardkeen at about 09:30 am on Sunday.
The priest was stabbed and suffered “serious but non-life threatening” injuries, according to garda.
He is being treated at University Hospital Waterford.
Alphonsus Cullinan, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, said he was “very shocked” by what happened and hoped the victim would make a full recovery.
He said he is also praying for the priest’s colleagues “who will be suffering as well. It’s a huge shock”.
A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident this morning and is being held at Waterford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
