Ireland braces for warm and humid week with thunderstorms expected

Ireland is set for another stretch of warm and humid weather this week, with temperatures reaching up to 26 degrees today before thunderstorms potentially bring relief from the sticky conditions, Met Éireann has forecast.

The national weather service predicts that Munster and south Leinster will experience the warmest conditions today, with temperatures ranging between 21 and 26 degrees under southerly breezes. However, the pleasant morning weather will give way to changing conditions as cloudier skies move in from the west and southwest by early afternoon.

While some sunny spells may break through the cloud cover, heavier rain and possible thunderstorms are expected later in the day, particularly affecting western and northern regions. Light rain and drizzle will spread to many areas as the day progresses.

Tonight will continue the pattern of mild and humid conditions, with temperatures remaining between 12 and 16 degrees. Southern parts of the country should see drier and clearer conditions, though showers and mist may persist elsewhere.

Tuesday promises a brighter start with more sunshine and dry weather initially, but thundery showers will gradually develop throughout the day. These could bring spot flooding to some areas as the week’s weather pattern continues.

The warm conditions extend beyond Ireland, with the UK’s Met Office issuing a yellow heat health alert as temperatures are forecast to climb above 30 degrees in some British regions between today and Wednesday, highlighting the broader pattern of elevated temperatures across the region.
