Irish actress, writer and creator Clare Dunne, has been chosen as one of 10 young actors to watch out for in the 25th-anniversary edition of European Shooting Stars.
Dunne, known for her roles in Kin, Herself and Annie+ received Best Actress nominations from the Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards, The British Independent Film Awards and the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) in 2021. She won the Best Script for a Film IFTA after co-writing Herself alongside Malcolm Campbell.
“Huge star potential,” read the statement by the EFP, recognising Dunne’s performance in Annie+ – which she co-created with Hanna van Vliet – as “full of life and outstandingly sympathetic, imbued with a strong sense of precision, sensitivity and authenticity.”
Speaking on their selection, the jury has been praised Clare on her ‘complex and highly relatable characters.’
They seemed highly enthusiastic about her performance style which ‘communicates a deep sense of self-awareness and well-founded confidence.’
Clare is not only an actress but also a writer of the critically acclaimed 2020 hit ‘Herself’.
‘Herself’ premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and acclaimed well with critics, Speaking to RTE on the incredible achievement Clare said;
‘I am so thrilled to be part of Shooting Stars! I have always fantasised about the wonderful conversations and collaborations that must happen at this gathering, and I am buzzing to be part of it in 2022 with such an incredible array of talented people.’

Clare Dunne will be recognised at a ceremony in Berlin International Film Festival on February 22.
