Irish supermarkets cut Kerrygold butter prices from today

Some of Ireland’s biggest supermarket chains have reduced the price of Kerrygold butter, offering welcome relief to shoppers facing ongoing grocery inflation.

SuperValu, Centra and Tesco have all confirmed price cuts on Kerrygold products from today. A pound of Kerrygold butter is now 50 cent cheaper, dropping from €5.49 to €4.99, while half-pound packs have fallen from €3.29 to €2.99. The reductions apply to both salted and unsalted varieties.

The cuts were first announced by Musgrave, which owns SuperValu and Centra. Musgrave said it has reduced Kerrygold prices by up to 9%, delivering savings of up to 50 cent per pack. Tesco later confirmed it would match the reductions.

In a statement, Musgrave said it recognises that household budgets remain under pressure and is committed to passing savings on to customers by working closely with suppliers. Tesco said it remains focused on providing “real value” every time customers shop.

The move follows earlier price reductions on staple foods, including butter, milk and bread. Last month, all major Irish supermarkets cut prices on their own-brand Irish butter ranges by up to 15%.

Despite these cuts, food prices remain high. Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the average price of butter rose by 54 cent per pound in the year to December, while Irish cheddar increased by 68 cent per kilogram. Grocery inflation remains elevated, with food prices still about 6% higher than a year ago.
