An Clochán, a key town in Connemara, has officially launched its Gaeltacht Service Town Language Plan in County Galway today, 29 July 2024. Spearheaded by Forum Connemara, the plan features 36 measures to bolster the Irish language in the area.
Minister of State Thomas Byrne praised the initiative, stating, “The language plan will allow the community to play a central role in strengthening the use of Irish in An Clochán and its surrounding areas.”
An Clochán is the ninth Gaeltacht Service Town to have an approved language plan. Forum Connemara will receive up to €96,000 annually for seven years to employ a Language Planning Officer and execute the plan.
Key Points:
- An Clochán is one of two Gaeltacht Service Towns in County Galway, the other being Cathair na Gaillimhe.
