A man in his 60s has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Portarlington, Co Laois.
The incident happened on Saturday at around 3.30 pm at Derryounce Lake.
The man was taken from the water and brought to Portlaoise General Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardaí are treating death as a tragic accident. A file will be prepared for the coroner.
It is the third swimming-related death to have occurred in the past week.
