Met Éireann has issued a yellow ice warning for 10 counties across Ireland as the country braces for severe cold conditions ahead of winter’s arrival.

The warning is in effect for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow and Tipperary from 11pm tonight (Thursday, November 20) until 8am tomorrow morning (Friday, November 21).
Arctic Conditions Expected
Temperatures in parts of these counties are forecast to drop as low as minus 3 degrees Celsius, creating hazardous icy conditions overnight and into the early morning hours.
Weather experts warn that the extreme cold will affect not only people but also animals, particularly livestock in exposed areas. Farmers are being advised to take precautions to protect vulnerable animals during the cold snap.
Travel Disruptions Anticipated
The severe cold and resulting ice formation will create significant obstacles for travelers. Motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads, particularly on untreated surfaces, bridges and overpasses where ice is most likely to form.
Authorities recommend allowing extra time for morning commutes, reducing speed in icy conditions, and ensuring vehicles are properly prepared for winter driving. Pedestrians should also take care on footpaths and surfaces that may be slippery due to ice.
The yellow warning indicates that conditions could cause travel disruptions and pose risks to safety, urging residents in affected counties to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions during the cold spell.
