In a move towards greater transparency and eco-consciousness, petrol stations across Ireland will soon be required to prominently display fuel price comparisons. The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has spearheaded this initiative, aligning with a European Union proposal aimed at aiding consumers in making informed choices while promoting sustainability.
Starting within the next five days, pumps dispensing three or more fuels will be mandated to feature boards showcasing the cost of petrol, diesel, and electric power per 100 kilometers. These displays aim to provide clarity on the financial implications of different fuel options for drivers across the country.
SEAI’s latest estimates indicate that traveling 100 kilometers costs an average of €10.04 for petrol, €8.95 for diesel, and a notably lower €3.18 for electric power. These figures, subject to quarterly revisions, underscore the potential savings and environmental benefits associated with electric vehicles.
This directive reflects Ireland’s commitment to enhancing consumer awareness regarding fuel choices and fostering a more sustainable transport sector. As motorists navigate their options at the pump, these visible comparisons are poised to shape decisions, driving Ireland towards a greener future.
