Based on recent data, the number of registrations for electric vehicles in Ireland have increased by 46% so far this year.
According to the Central Statistics Office, there were 9,828 new electric vehicles in the first four months of this year compared to 6,748 in the first four months of 2022.
In comparison to 13% at the same period in 2022, it indicates that 17% of all new cars this year were electric.
Overall, sales of petrol-powered cars have surged by 45%, going from 14,015 in the same time in 2022 to 20,265 new petrol-powered vehicles.
Additionally, 7% less new diesel vehicles were sold during this time.
As of now this year, there have been 5% more used automobiles licenced than there were at this time last year.
In comparison to the first four months of 2022, there have been 5,974 used (imported) diesel cars licences issued this year, a decrease of 3%.
According to data, Volkswagen (1,409) has so far this year been the most popular brand of new private-use car, followed by Toyota (1,346), Skoda (1,054), Kia (900), and Peugeot (613). Together, these five manufacturers account for little under 50% (47%) of all new private-use cars.
