New Leadership Announced for An Post: Kieran Mulvey Appointed Chairperson

Dublin – Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, has appointed Kieran Mulvey as Chairperson Designate of the Board of An Post, following an open competition by the Public Appointments Service. Additionally, Eleanor O’Neill and John O’Grady have been appointed as Non-Executive Directors, each for a five-year term.

Minister Ryan highlighted Mulvey’s extensive experience, including his roles as Chief Executive of the Labour Relations Commission and Director General of the Workplace Relations Commission. Mulvey has also served as a Non-Executive Director and Senior Independent Director at An Post. “Kieran’s mature guidance and stewardship will help An Post navigate its current challenges and opportunities,” said Ryan.

Eleanor O’Neill brings valuable expertise from her time at Symantec and service on various State Boards, including the National Transport Authority and Coillte. John O’Grady, a Chartered Accountant, offers significant financial expertise from his tenure as Chief Financial Officer at FBD. “Their skills and expertise will ensure An Post is well-equipped to deliver on its objectives,” added Ryan.

Minister Ryan also thanked former Chairperson Carol Bolger for her significant contributions, noting her retirement from the Board in April.

Minister of State for Postal Policy, James Lawless, emphasized the critical role Mulvey will play in leading An Post’s transformation to meet customer needs for reliable and affordable postal services while evolving as an eCommerce and financial services provider.

The appointments followed the Public Appointments Service selection process and government guidelines. Mulvey is set to appear before the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications as part of the procedure for proposed Chairpersons of State Boards.

These appointments mark a significant step in strengthening An Post’s leadership, ensuring the organization is well-positioned for future challenges and opportunities.
