An off-duty Dublin firefighter saved a drowning man’s life with the help of a commoner in Co Waterford on New Year’s Eve.
The incident occurred around 9.30 a.m. at Counsellor’s Strand in Dunmore East where a male swimmer got into trouble in a rocky area.
Alex Daly, a firefighter and paramedic working in Swords saw the man drowning and quickly realized the seriousness of the situation. Along with the help of a member from public, she used a life buoy to keep the drowning man float.
Meanwhile some others called the emergency services and the man stayed afloat with the life buoy for 20 minutes before the services arrived. The RNLI from Dunmore East helped the man to get shore.
The RNLI later said that it was the people who used life buoy which saved the man’s life.
Alex Daly was off duty on the day and her quick thinking helped the man to come back to life. The name and details of the other person who involved in rescue is unknown.
