Packaging flaw prompts Lidl recall of popular cake over allergy risk

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has ordered the recall of a popular cake product sold in Lidl stores across Ireland, citing a serious packaging error that could pose a health risk.

The affected product is Bridge Bakery Oxford Lunch Cake. According to the Food Safety Authority, the cake contains almonds, but this allergen was not declared on the packaging.

Undeclared allergens can cause severe reactions in people with nut allergies, including breathing difficulties and, in extreme cases, life-threatening anaphylaxis. Because of this risk, the product has been removed from sale.

Customers who have purchased the cake are being strongly advised not to eat it. Those with almond allergies are particularly at risk.

The Food Safety Authority said the recall was issued as a precautionary measure to protect public health. Lidl stores are expected to display recall notices in affected outlets, and customers may be entitled to a refund.

Consumers are urged to check their purchases carefully and to follow recall notices issued by food safety authorities to avoid potential health complications.
