Protestors have raised their demand on sharing the vaccine technology by AstraZeneca as they gather outside the medical firm’s headquarters in Cambridge. They raised their voice and placards saying ‘human life not profit’, ‘people’s vaccine, not profit vaccine’ and so on. Many protestors have broke in and occupied the rooftop with banners. They played drums during their protest demanding to share the technology with the WHO.
The protests were organised by Global Justice Now and they said that the vaccine were developed using the money given by the people and it’s the responsibility of the pharmaceutical firm to provide vaccine to the public and not use it to make profit. In short, their demand is to make the vaccine accessible for everyone.
The social justice organization claimed that AstraZeneca hasn’t been a part of the Covid 19 technology access pool by the WHO, which could facilitate the sharing of technologies world wide for treatment and vaccines. Posters had been appeared in areas, where concentration of people are high, highlighting the level of public investment in vaccine research and the profits bagged by the company alone.
