A six-year-old boy has died following a “tragic accident” at a hotel swimming pool in Co Offaly.
The child is believed to have gotten into difficulty at the pool in the Tullamore Court Hotel.
The incident happened on Sunday and is being treated as a tragic accident by investigating gardai.
A garda spokesperson said: “The child was taken to Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin where they later passed”.
“Gardaí are investigating the death of a male child, aged six years, following an incident at premises in Co Offaly that occurred on Sunday 29th May 2022,” a Garda spokesperson said.
They also confirmed that a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority said it is aware of this incident and said all the necessary enquiries were being made.
The Tullamore Court Hotel also released a statement in light of the accident and said it was with “great sadness” that they learned of the boy’s passing.
Its statement read: “We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones at this difficult time.
