Taoiseach Simon Harris has indicated that the general election in Ireland will take place this year.
Speaking to media ahead of a meeting with coalition leaders, Harris said that the government would “amicably agree a time period” for the upcoming election.
Harris acknowledged that the election is “not far away at this stage,” suggesting that an announcement could be imminent.
He further said, “It is my expectation now that there will be a general election in 2024.”
The Taoiseach made these remarks at an event celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Ski Club of Ireland at Kilternan, Co Dublin.
Harris also assured that he has “no intention” of taking his coalition partners by surprise regarding the election timing.
Last week, Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman suggested that the election should be held on November 29 and that it was his preference to hold the polls before Christmas.
