Two men remain in custody after following the seizure of 100kg of cannabis in an operation targeting an organised crime gang.
The drugs, with an estimated street value of €2 million, were discovered during an operation carried out by gardaí and Revenue in Drogheda, Co Louth.
The seizure was part of ongoing investigations targeting suspects involved in an organised crime group operating in the Louth area.
A garda spokesman said, “As part of an ongoing investigations targeting persons suspected to be involved in an organised crime group operating in the Louth area, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Drogheda Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a Joint Operation with personnel attached to the Revenue Customs Service today, Friday the 29th of April 2022.”
During the search, gardai found around 100 kilograms of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €2,000,000 that was seized by Revenue officers.
Two men, aged 49 and 65, were arrested at the scene in connection with the seizure and were detained at Drogheda Garda station.
They were detained on Friday under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
