The US has conducted an unmanned drone strike targeting the Islamic State terrorists in Afghanistan in response to the suicide bomber attacks near Kabul Airport. The terrorists used two suicide bombers near the airport on Thursday which remained 85 people killed including 13 US troops. The President Joe Biden had warned the terrorists that the US would hunt them down and make them pay. The Islamic State if Khorasan (ISIS-K) had claimed the responsibility for airport attack and said to be at odds with the Taliban.
The drone strike was carried out following Mr Biden’s announcement and Captain Bill Urban of the Central Command indicated the killing of the target (terrorists).
‘U.S. military forces conducted an over-the-horizon counter-terrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned airstrike occurred in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan. Initial indications are that we killed the target. We know of no civilian casualties.’ said Captain Urban in a statement.
Meanwhile the evacuation process is progressing as the Taliban’s deadline for US to leave the country is on August 31. As per the latest report, more than 5,000 people still remain inside the airport waiting to flee the country. Apart from them thousands are reaching the airport and waiting in the perimeters. More fears of attacks from the terrorists are still in the environment.
On the other hand, the Irish government are planning to receive 500 refugees from Afghanistan, which was presumed to be 200 a week before. As the situations worsened in the country, there were calls on government to increase refugee intake at least to 1,000. The UN agency, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is calculating almost half a million refugees will flee from Afghan at through the end of the year.
