Waterford malayali association launches youth club on Kerala piravi day

“My Malayalam – Creative Hub” initiative aims to preserve language and cultural heritage among new generation

The Waterford Malayali Association (WMA) will celebrate Kerala Piravi Day on Saturday, November 1, with the official inauguration of a Youth Club for secondary school students at the Faronshoneen Youth and Community Centre at 11am.

The event, organized under the “My Malayalam – Creative Hub” initiative, aims to transmit the richness of the Malayalam language and Kerala cultural heritage to younger generations while promoting children’s artistic and cultural talents.

Peace Commissioner Renee Abraham will officially inaugurate the Youth Club, which provides a dedicated platform for secondary school students to showcase and develop their artistic and cultural abilities. The initiative seeks to help young talents enhance their skills while strengthening social connections within the community.

Kerala Piravi Day, celebrated on November 1, marks the formation of Kerala state in 1956. The observance holds particular significance for Malayali communities abroad as an opportunity to celebrate their linguistic and cultural identity.

The Waterford Malayali Association’s youth-focused programming reflects growing efforts among diaspora communities to ensure cultural continuity across generations. By creating structured opportunities for young people to engage with Malayalam language and Kerala traditions, the organization addresses concerns about cultural preservation among children raised in Ireland.

The November 1 celebration will feature a wide range of cultural programs showcasing Kerala’s artistic traditions alongside the Youth Club inauguration.
