A woman in her 70s has died following a house fire on the north side of Cork city. The incident took place at her house at Silversprings Court in Mayfield on Saturday shortly after 8pm. At the time of the blaze, she was the only person inside the house.
A neighbour used alarm to alert Gardai after seeing smoke coming out of the house. The woman was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem of the deceased will be carried out at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
Cork City Fire Brigade and gardaí attended at the scene and according to them the fire was caused by some accident.
