After a car hit several pedestrians in Co. Cork early this morning, one woman died and two others have been hospitalised.
When the pedestrians left a building in the village of Béal tha a Ghaorthaidh at around 1.10 a.m., the incident took place.
The deceased woman was in her early 50s.
She was transported to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be performed.
With serious wounds, two additional women were also transported to Cork University Hospital.
Before the incident, the three women were having conversations with one another.
It is believed that several people attended the funeral that had taken place earlier in the day.
A 40-year-old man was detained at Bandon Garda Station after being arrested there.
The village’s main street is currently closed, pending a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
