Yellow rain warning issued for six western counties

Met Éireann has issued a yellow rain warning for six counties, effective from 6pm Wednesday until 6pm Thursday.

The warning covers Clare, Donegal, Mayo, Leitrim, Sligo, and Galway, with forecasters warning of localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult traveling conditions. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible during the warning period.

Wednesday afternoon will bring sunshine and showers spreading from the west across all areas. Western regions can expect heavy or prolonged downpours with a chance of isolated thunderstorms, while temperatures will reach 16 to 21 degrees with moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Wednesday night will see heavy showers merging into longer spells of thundery rain across Atlantic counties, creating conditions for spot flooding.

Thursday’s weather will feature blustery southwesterly winds and frequent showers that will merge into longer periods of rain. Local lightning and spot flooding are expected, particularly across northwest counties, with temperatures dropping to between 15 and 20 degrees.

The warning comes as unsettled weather patterns continue to affect Ireland’s western seaboard, with Atlantic weather systems bringing persistent rainfall to the region. Motorists are advised to exercise caution during the warning period and allow extra time for journeys.

Met Éireann continues to monitor weather conditions and may issue updates or additional warnings as the weather system develops.
