Yuno Energy announces electricity and gas price freeze for winter months

Yuno Energy has announced a price freeze for electricity and gas customers until at least March 1, ahead of tomorrow’s budget announcement which is not expected to include energy credits.

The bill pay service, which was established two years ago and now serves 65,000 customer accounts, said the freeze means its customers will benefit from the lowest rates in the Irish market.

CEO Cathal Fay said the absence of universal energy credits this winter would make customers “more price sensitive than ever”. He added that the coming winter will be difficult for many households and the price freeze would provide reassurance and predictability about energy costs in the months ahead.

The announcement follows a similar move last week by Yuno’s sister company PrepayPower, which also announced a price freeze for its electricity and gas customers for the winter period.

Energy costs have been a major concern for Irish households in recent years, with significant price increases during the cost of living crisis. The government previously provided energy credits to help offset rising bills, but these supports are not expected to be included in tomorrow’s budget.

The price freeze will be welcomed by consumers facing continued pressure from high living costs, though questions remain about whether other energy suppliers will follow suit with similar measures to protect customers during the winter months when energy consumption typically increases.
