Belfast’s £340 million transport hub to open this weekend with first bus to Dublin

Belfast’s new £340 million public transport hub, Grand Central Station, is set to open to passengers this weekend, marking a major milestone for Northern Ireland’s transport infrastructure.

The station is located on Grosvenor Road, just a ten-minute walk from Belfast City Hall.

Grand Central Station is being hailed as a “game-changer” for both bus and rail services in Northern Ireland and across the island. It is designed to streamline transport connections and enhance travel experiences for commuters and travelers alike.

The first service scheduled to depart on Sunday morning will be a cross-border bus headed to Dublin. This service highlights the station’s role as a key link between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Although the new concourse is ready to accommodate both rail and bus services, cross-border train services will not begin immediately. Testing on newly installed tracks and signalling systems still needs to be completed before rail operations can fully commence.

The official start date for rail services from Grand Central Station will be announced in due course, once the necessary safety and operational checks are finalized.
