A majority of people living in Ireland would prefer the Universal Social Charge (USC) to be removed in the upcoming Budget 2025, rather than seeing an increase in the income tax threshold, according to a new poll.
The poll, conducted by Red C/Business Post, revealed that 49 per cent of those surveyed were in favour of the removal of USC.
Around 22 per cent said they would prefer an increase in the income tax threshold, while 29 per cent were neutral or unsure.
Notably, the poll also revealed that more men (53 per cent) than women (44 per cent) supported the abolition of the USC.
The poll findings come close on the heels of recent comments by taoiseach Simon Harris that the budget package would include income tax and USC reductions.
Last year’s budget witnessed the first reduction in USC in several years, lowering it to 4 per cent, while the government increased the income tax standard rate threshold to €42,000.
