Garda seize €566,000, horses and cars in major search operation targeting crime group in Limerick; 14 arrested

Garda took 19 people in to custody following a major operation targeting assets of a Limerick crime group on Tuesday. ‘Operation Coronation’ was carried out in 65 dwellings and businesses near the outskirts of Limerick city and was in collaboration with the Criminal Assets Bureau, Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau. The Emergency Response Unit, the Armed Response Unit, Regional Dog Unit, Air Support Unit, members from the Irish Defence Forces and Revenue and Customs were also gave support in the vigorous search operation.

€566,000 in cash and monies from eight financial accounts; ten horses, including a stallion worth an estimated €50,000; a €10,000 horse box; three high-end vehicles, including a BMW, VW Tiguan, Range Rover; five designer watches; €10,000 worth of cannabis herb and cocaine; drug paraphernalia; and documents were seized following the operation, the Garda confirmed.

Out of 19 in custody, 14 of them have been arrested and five of them are being detained. Three women and two men have been presented before Limerick District Court under the charges of Money Laundering & Terrorist Finance Act, 2020. Others will appear court on a later date, reports Breakingnews.ie.

The operation is believed to be a follow-up of 2020 operation targeting Keane/Collopy drug gang where the garda had seized €700,000, drugs, guns, designer clothing, jewellery and cars. 20 persons had been arrested then.
