Garda have issued a warning for the public about a parcel delivery scam that has become prevalent in Ireland.
“More scams, if we were getting all the parcels we were being promised it would be like Christmas!!! This time it’s the old click the link for the delivery of the item you didn’t order. Do not click these links, stay cautious, stay safe.” Garda said in a post shared online.
It has already affected thousands of people and lost large amount of money. Some people who have already booked some items online believe such messages are from authorized parties and usually click on the link provided. It’s usually a scam website which can make you lose your money and compromise with personal details.
Our Crime Prevention Officer received these two fraudulent texts and you may have too. Just be alert and do not follow links. Always pause think and double-check on official platforms if there are issues.” Garda’s warning said.
The messages sometimes claim to be from the DHL IT team and includes a link to a website that seeks to obtain people’s financial data. Following this DHL said in a statement, ‘DHL will never request the installation of apps via SMS, only via authorised app stores.’
