Gardaí on Monday seized €76,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb and more than €7,000 in cash following the search of a house in Galway.
At approximately 10.30 p.m., Gardaí attached to the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit seized suspected cannabis herb worth €76,000 (pending analysis) and €7,150 in cash during the search of a house in the Newcastle area of Galway. A man in his 40’s was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at North Western Regional HQ in Galway.
The cannabis bust is part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drug strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels — international, national, local — involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
