India bags the first track and field Gold medal in the history of Olympics with Neeraj Chopra’s win in Javelin Throw Final in Tokyo. Neeraj, who has been in the medal hopes since the start of this Olympics threw an unbeaten 87.58 metres in the final, becoming the only second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win an individual Gold in Olympics.
In the first throw, Chopra found 87.03 metres which he made better by 87.58 in the second try. Though he couldn’t improve than this, none of the other 12 participants around the world didn’t reach anywhere near.
Today India won Bronze medal in Men’s Freestyle 65 Kg with Bajrang Puniya beating Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov. Puniya’s smashing victory is with a score of 8-0.
So far in Tokyo Olympics, Mirabai Chanu (Silver), PV Sindhu (Bronze), Lovlina Borgohain (Bronze), Men’s hockey team (Bronze), and Ravi Kumar Dahiya (Silver) also have won medals for India. India now holds 7 medals in Tokyo, which is the highest of the country in a single season of Olympic games.
