Dublin has been named among the world’s most congested cities, highlighting the growing traffic crisis in the Irish capital.

According to the latest data from TomTom, Dublin ranks as the sixth slowest city globally and sits third on the list of the most congested cities. The findings show that traffic delays are costing drivers a significant amount of time each year.
On average, motorists in Dublin lost around 191 hours stuck in traffic last year, the equivalent of nearly eight full days. Heavy congestion meant vehicles moved at very slow speeds, with the average travel time recorded at three minutes and 27 seconds per kilometre.
The report also identified December 11 as the worst day for travel in the city, when congestion levels peaked and journey times were at their longest.
Traffic congestion has become one of the most serious challenges facing Dublin, affecting daily commuters, businesses and public transport services. With traffic volumes continuing to rise, the figures underline the increasing pressure on the city’s road infrastructure and the urgent need for long-term transport solutions.
