Febin Manoj has been named in Cricket Ireland’s under-17 boys squad, marking a momentous occasion for the Indian diaspora.
Febin, a talented young cricketer from the Hills Cricket Club in Dublin, has made significant strides in his cricketing career, leading to this achievement. “Febin works hard at his game and has put in excellent performances for our 1sts, 2nds and Leincester U17. Well done Febin and good luck,” the Hill Cricket Club said in a Facebook post.
This selection is significant as Febin is the first Indian from the state of Kerala to be chosen for an Irish national cricket’s under-17 team. It also highlights the growing diversity in Irish sports and the increasing contributions of the Indian diaspora to Ireland’s cultural and social fabric.
Febin is the son of Manoj John and Beena Varghese. His father hails from Chengamanadu, Kerala, and his mother works as a Clinical Nurse Manager at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Athy, County Kildare. Febin also has a supportive sister, Neha John.
In an interview, Manoj expressed his gratitude towards the Indian community in Ireland for their support. He noted that Febin’s success is not just his own but also a product of the continuous encouragement from his family and friends. “It’s a collective achievement for all of us,” Manoj said, emphasizing the community’s role in Febin’s journey.
The cricket community and Febin’s family are celebrating this achievement, which is seen as a stepping stone for more multicultural representation in Irish sports.
