Ireland Sets New Record for Recycling Electronic Waste

Irish consumers have set a new record in recycling electronic and electrical waste, with an impressive 41,730 tonnes recycled in 2023. This achievement surpasses the previous year’s record by the equivalent of 200 additional 40-foot containers.

The annual Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) report revealed that a total of 18.1 million appliances were collected for recycling. This significant increase highlights the growing awareness and commitment of Irish citizens towards environmentally responsible disposal of electronic waste.

Recycling electronic waste is crucial as it prevents harmful substances from entering the environment and allows valuable materials to be recovered and reused. The increased efforts by Irish consumers are a positive step towards a more sustainable future.

WEEE Ireland, the organization behind the report, continues to encourage the public to recycle their electronic and electrical items. They emphasize the importance of proper disposal to protect the environment and conserve resources.

This record-breaking achievement showcases Ireland’s dedication to improving recycling practices and reducing electronic waste, setting a strong example for other countries to follow.
