Irish consumers waste up to €374 worth of food per year, survey reveals

Over a third of Irish consumers regularly discard food, contributing to economic losses and environmental consequences, a new survey commissioned by Too Good To Go has revealed.

As per the survey, conducted ahead of National Stop Food Waste Day on March 1st, an average person in Ireland throws away up to €374 worth of food a year.

Ireland generates approximately 750,000 tonnes of food waste annually across various sectors, significantly impacting global greenhouse gas emissions.
With up to 10 per cent of global emissions linked to food waste, tackling the issue is a crucial climate action

National Stop Food Waste Day, led by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), kicks off on March 1st, followed by a week-long campaign until March 7th.

This initiative aligns with Ireland’s goal of halving food waste by 2030, as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
