Davy, Ireland’s largest stockbroker, reported that 34,000 new homes are expected to be completed in Ireland in 2024, a slight increase from the 32,695 units finished in 2023.
This modest growth is projected to accelerate in the coming years, with 42,000 completions forecast for 2025 and 50,000 by 2026.
The stockbroker highlights significant activity in housing starts, with over 59,000 units commenced in the 12 months to October 2024.
Many of these are apartments, which typically require longer construction timelines than houses. As a result, their impact on completions is expected to materialise in 2025 and 2026 rather than this year.
Despite the progress, experts warn that Ireland still faces a substantial housing shortage. The country requires nearly 60,000 new homes annually to meet demand driven by population growth and years of under-supply.
Adding to the pressure on the housing market, Davy also predicts continued increases in house prices.
