Irishman shot dead in Australia named locally as sligo man Damien conlon

Local media have identified the departed Irishman as Damien Conlon from County Sligo. He was shot dead on Thursday in Australia.

Mr. Conlon, who was in his 30s, had spent more than ten years living in Australia.

He was discovered on Thursday morning local time with a gunshot wound at a residence in the Oberon neighborhood of the Central Tablelands of New South Wales.

He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Indicted for Mr. Conlon’s murder, Luke Simon, 57, has since made an appearance in court.

He was refused bail and is due back before the courts in seven weeks’ time on April 5th.

He was denied bail, and his next court appearance is scheduled for April 5th, which is seven weeks from now.

Police think the two men were acquainted.

Since moving to Australia, Mr. Conlon reportedly worked in construction. He started his own business in Australia after receiving carpentry training.

In 2021, he was granted Australian citizenship.

The Department of Foreign Affairs stated that it is aware of the situation and is offering consular support.
