A man in his 40s has been arrested after he allegedly rammed a van into the gates of Government Buildings, the Customs House, and Áras an Uachtaráin (the home of the President) in separate incidents in the wee hours of Friday morning in Dublin.
The man, in an inebriated state, was detained in Dublin city centre on suspicion of road traffic offences, RTE reported. He is known to gardai for drug related and other offences.
Gardaí have ruled out terrorism as a motive. The white van has been seized as part of the investigation.
The man first drove the van into the gates of Áras an Uachtaráin. Subsequently, he drove the vehicle towards the Customs House, where minimal damage was caused, before it was driven to Merrion Street where Government Buildings are situated.
No one was injured in connection with the incidents.
