A man is in serious condition in hospital following a shooting in a rural area outside Tallaght, Dublin, this afternoon.
The incident happened on lands in Lugmore in the Mount Seskin area, a rural part of southwest Dublin at around 1 pm. The area is off the Blessington Road and is used for farming.
He was treated at the scene by gardaí and paramedics before he was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.
It is believed he was shot in the head. A dog that was with him was also shot during the incident.
The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and gardaí at Tallaght are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Detectives do not believe at this stage the incident is linked to organised crime and are investigating if a dispute or a row arose over the dog before the shooting occurred.
