Meet Dublin’s Pigeon Man who spends his time feeding birds outside Stephen’s Green

Dublin’s Pigeon Man, otherwise known as Daniel, is regularly spotted outside Dublin’s St Stephen’s Green when the weather is nice. You are unlikely to ever see Daniel by himself. Rather, you’ll spot him surrounded by huge crowds of pigeons availing of the seeds he cusps in his hands.

His love for birds and all things nature is evident as he welcomes them into his arms and even onto his shoulders and head.

Daniel tells Dublin Live that he feeds the pigeons just outside St Stephen’s Green park because when inside, they get attacked by seagulls. He says:

“They know me. They do things when I’m here that they won’t normally do because they know me so well. They trust me completely.”

He adds: “The seagulls attack the pigeons and people do some rather strange things in the park.

“While you’ve got the pigeons around you, they throw bread and all other kinds of stuff.”

Daniel, who normally lives in Berlin, feeds the pigeons on a regular basis. He explains:

“Every time I’ve been here, I’ve fed the pigeons.

“I’ve been with nature all my life.

“I’ve been in Ireland about a year and a half longer than anticipated but I hope to be going home to Berlin at least before Christmas.

“I’m not an indoors type. I’m more like them sometimes than I am with people.”
