“Narrow Escape As 100-Year-Old Building Collapses In County Mayo, Five Injured”

Kilkelly, County Mayo – A potentially catastrophic incident unfolded in Kilkelly, County Mayo, as the century-old Duffy’s Pub, a prominent local establishment on Main Street, saw its roof collapse at approximately 9 a.m. today. Miraculously, all five individuals inside the structure at the time were successfully rescued by diligent efforts from gardaí and emergency services. They were subsequently transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Furthermore, a parked van was unfortunate enough to be caught beneath the crumbling structure.

Local Fianna Fáil councilor John Caulfield stressed the role of sheer luck in the escape of the building’s occupants, emphasizing that had the incident occurred on a weekday, the lives of children walking along the street could have been in grave jeopardy.

In response to this alarming event, Gardaí and the Department of Health have launched separate investigations to determine the root causes and potential safety concerns associated with the collapsed building. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining and regularly inspecting aging structures to prevent such disasters.
