Commuters traveling from Newbridge and Kildare to Dublin will finally see substantial fare reductions implemented at the end of April, following a delay in the planned expansion of the Dublin commuter zone.

According to Social Democrats councillor Chris Prender, the Dublin commuter zone and Leap Card expansion will take effect on April 28, 2025, despite initially being announced for June 2024.
“This is a significant step forward for fairer public transport fares in our communities,” Prender stated.
The fare reductions will be substantial for daily commuters. A ticket from Newbridge to Heuston will drop by approximately 45%, from €10.85 to €6.00 when using a Leap card. Similarly, journeys from Kildare Town to Heuston will see a 37% reduction, with fares falling from €11.95 to €7.50.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) published these reduced rates in its fares determination in January 2024. The expanded Dublin commuter zone will extend approximately 50 kilometers from Dublin city center, encompassing towns including Drogheda, Navan, Trim, Enfield, Clane, Prosperous, Newbridge, Kildare, Greystones, and Wicklow.
Additionally, new 2025 TaxSaver fares will be implemented beginning June 1.
