Two viable pipe bombs were discovered during an overnight security alert in the Skeoge area of Derry in Northern Ireland. Police received a report shortly after 12:30am on Thursday about suspicious devices in the Glenabbey Close and Beraghvale area, prompting a major safety operation and the evacuation of nearly two dozen homes.

Ammunition technical officers examined the devices and confirmed they were viable pipe bombs. Both were made safe and removed for forensic examination, and residents have since been allowed to return home after cordons were lifted.
Chief Inspector Graeme Craig said the alert caused major disruption for local residents and businesses, with families forced to leave their homes during the night and morning routines severely affected. He thanked the community for their patience and cooperation during the operation.
The officer described the incident as “reprehensible,” saying those responsible showed no regard for the local community. Police will maintain a presence in the area as investigations continue and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting reference 32 of 13/11/25.
