Prime Minister Welcomes Irish Medalists from European Athletics Championships

The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Ireland’s medalists from the European Athletics Championships held in Rome, Italy, from June 7 to 12. Ireland achieved an impressive 10th place overall, winning two gold and two silver medals.

At a ceremony hosted at Government House, the Prime Minister greeted athletes Sharlene Mawdsley, Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, Lauren Cadden, Mark Smyth, Joseph Ojewumi, and Hiko Tonosa, along with their support staff. He praised their outstanding performances and also acknowledged those who were unable to attend the event.

Ireland’s gold medals were secured in the 4×400m mixed relay and the women’s 1,500m. The country also claimed silver medals in the women’s 400m race and the women’s 4x400m relay. These achievements highlight the dedication and talent of Ireland’s athletes and their support teams.
