Road fatalities in Ireland showed a modest decline in 2024, with 174 people losing their lives in 160 fatal collisions, according to new figures from the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
The data represents a 4% decrease from 2023’s total of 181 deaths across 170 collisions, suggesting a slight improvement in road safety over the past year.
According to The Irish Examiner, while any reduction in road fatalities is positive, these numbers still represent a significant toll on Irish families and communities, with an average of more than three deaths per week on the country’s roads throughout 2024.
The decrease in both the number of fatal collisions and total deaths indicates some progress in road safety measures, though the figures suggest there is still considerable work to be done in making Ireland’s roads safer.
These statistics come as authorities continue their efforts to improve road safety through enforcement, education, and infrastructure improvements across the country.
