In the most recent Business Post/Red C Poll survey, Sinn Féin has solidified its position as Ireland’s leading opposition party, boasting a 3% increase in popular support since January. The party, led by Mary Lou McDonald, now commands 28% of the public’s backing, making it the country’s most favored political entity.
Noteworthy is the surge in support among the 18-34 age group, with a significant base comprising workers. However, Sinn Féin appears to face challenges in Dublin, where its influence is limited, and among women, who are less inclined to support the party compared to men.
Contrastingly, the ruling party, Fine Gael, maintains a steady 20% support, while Fianna Fáil experiences a slight dip to 16%. Other players in the political landscape include the Social Democrats, seeing a 1% rise to 7%, and the Labor Party holding firm at 4%. The Green Party witnesses a decline to 3%, alongside People Before Profit. With the general election scheduled for March 2025 and local elections in June, Sinn Féin’s growing popularity sets the stage for a dynamic political landscape.
