Storm Floris leaves 8,000 without power as weather warnings take effect

Storm Floris has left approximately 8,000 homes and businesses without electricity after making landfall overnight, bringing damaging winds and localized flooding across Ireland.

ESB crews are working to restore power, with Galway, Clare, Mayo, and Donegal among the worst-affected counties as the storm continues to impact the western and northwestern regions.

Met Éireann has issued multiple weather warnings as Storm Floris batters the country. A status yellow wind warning remains in effect for Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, and Monaghan from 4am until 4pm Monday, while Clare, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo face similar conditions until 1pm.

The national weather service warns of dangerous traveling conditions, with risks of fallen trees, debris, and loose objects creating hazardous situations on roads. Structural damage and further power outages are also expected.

A separate yellow rain warning affects Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo until 10am Monday, with Met Éireann cautioning about potential localized flooding and lightning damage.

The storm’s impact has disrupted the start of the working week for thousands, with authorities advising caution for those who must travel. ESB crews continue working to restore electricity to affected areas, though no timeline has been provided for full restoration of services across all impacted regions.
