A road accident in Co. Mayo resulted in the deaths of two men in their 20s.
Just before midnight, a car and an articulated lorry collided at Facefield on the N60 Balla to Claremorris road.
Two of the car’s occupants were declared dead at the scene, and their bodies were taken to Mayo University Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Gardaí say the driver of the lorry, a man in his 30s, was taken to MUH as a precaution.
The crash occurred on a straight stretch of road past the former Beaten Path pub, midway between Balla and Claremorris.
The road has been closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly road users with camera footage (including dash cam), to contact Castlebar Garda Station on 094 903 8200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
