Unofficial Strike Disrupts Government Bus Services In Limerick

Limerick – An unexpected strike by Bus Eireann drivers in Limerick has caused widespread disruption to public transportation services. The strike commenced this morning, with drivers who were on overtime duty walking off the job. Bus Eireann, the official bus service provider under the Irish Government, employs these additional drivers to cover for regular drivers during leave periods.

The strike stems from an ongoing dispute over working hours for these substitute drivers. Bus Eireann management expressed surprise at the unofficial strike, noting that working hours had previously been reviewed by the Workplace Relations Commission.

This disruption will have a significant impact on commuters traveling for various purposes, including work, school, shopping, and medical appointments. Bus Eireann officials have issued apologies for the inconvenience caused.

In response, the National Bus and Rail Union clarified that the drivers had not undertaken the strike without prior notice. Union General Secretary Dermot O’Leary stated that there would be no disciplinary actions against the striking drivers and urged resolution through discussions at the Workplace Relations Commission.
