Human rights organisation Amnesty International Ireland has announced the temporary layoff of 11 out of its 29 employees, citing a cash flow crisis as the reason behind this decision.
The layoffs and reduced working hours will take effect starting September 6.
In a statement, Amnesty International Ireland expressed deep regret over the decision, emphasizing that it was “not taken lightly”.
The temporary layoffs are part of a broader transformation programme aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of the human rights organization in Ireland.
Amnesty stressed that these measures are essential to secure its future operations.
In response to the layoffs, the Services Industrial Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU) has urged the Board of Amnesty International Ireland to use every means at its disposal to protect the jobs of its staff.
SIPTU called on the organisation to prioritise the employment of its workers as it navigates this temporary financial crisis.
