Authorities warn of shock hazard from 114,000 heating system pumps installed in Irish homes

Authorities have issued an urgent warning about more than 114,000 heating system pumps widely installed in Irish homes due to a serious risk of electric shock.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has raised the alarm over circulating pumps used in many domestic heating systems across the country. The safety issue affects Tucson 5m, 6m and 8m pumps manufactured between 2017 and 2024.

The CCPC is warning homeowners not to touch or attempt to repair pumps that have been identified as having safety issues, as there is a significant risk of electric shock. While the pumps can continue to operate, people should not touch them or attempt to disconnect the electricity supply.

The safety defect was discovered following an inspection carried out by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).

Tucson has committed to replacing affected pumps free of charge. The company will send technicians to homes to install safe replacement pumps at no cost to homeowners.

Residents can check whether their pump is affected by entering the serial number into an online checking tool available at tucsonpumps.com/serial-number-checking-tool.

The CCPC emphasized the seriousness of the risk and urged anyone with an affected pump to contact Tucson immediately to arrange a free replacement rather than attempting any DIY repairs or adjustments.

For more information, homeowners can visit the CCPC website at ccpc.ie or contact the commission at 01 842 6255.

Anyone with concerns about their heating system pump should check the serial number online as soon as possible to determine if their unit is affected by the safety recall.
